Agrivar approached the keep library that morning with an armful of various notes, scrolls, and items of interest. These documents contained his research into the troubles which have plagued the City of Katta Castellum and also some of his brothren. The image of Sparkus being subjected to the vile Vampyres of the Coterie of Eternal Night and the other innocent creatures of Luclin drove Agrivar to monitor their activities closely.
As the elder knight passed the halls of rememberance, he gave pause in front of a painting of Eltherion DeLorme battling Myong Mistmore. Eltherion had placed his trust in Agrivar, he saw potential in this once squire years ago. Even as he aged, Agrivar never forgot the sacred trust placed upon him by the previous holy champion. Agrivar too struggled with his own mortality and understanding that he had not lived up to the holy champions vision.
As he stood there in introspection, the door to the great library opened and an orange robe gnome appeared in the hall. Good morning, Sir Agrivar Loremaster Wratchet said with a smile and bow. Good Morning noble Loremaster Agrivar replied bowing in respect. As he did so, one of the scrolls fell to the floor between them.
Wratchet bent and picked up the document, intrigued by the seal of Katta Castellum set in red wax across the scrolls edge. Inquisitively, the gnome looked up at Agrivar raising an eyebrow in interest. Agrivar tried to hold back his inner laughter as he noticed a thin white line slightly above the gnomes upper lip.
Agrivar What? Wratchet said suspiciously.
I see that you must have run out of milk, noble loremaster. Agrivar said as he held back a chuckle. This prompted Wratchet to whipe his face with the edge of his right sleeve. The sleeve had seen its share of milk whipping and cookie crumbs. I was just about to get my morning milk. Refilled the loremaster responded.
No need honorable friend as I come prepared with cookies and milk for us both. The sparkle in Wratchets eyes was unmistakable. Ok, you have my attention Agrivar.
The two walked back to Wratchets office. Agrivar produced the White Chocolate chip cookies and milk he had purchased earlier and ordered his notes and scrolls.
So what is the word from Katta Castellum, Agrivar? I see you have many things interesting things with you this morning.
Agrivar began, I was contacted a few months ago by Phenic Dionicas, Magestrate of the Loyalist Combine Empire. He expressed that the troubles with the Coterie of the Eternal Night had become bolder of late and was concerned that they were once again becoming embolden.
Phenic shared with me that he was amoung the first Validus Custodus to encounter the vampires. He told me of the bravery of a childhood friend, Heratius Grolden, a Validus Custodus of legend. Heratius was buried years ago with honor in the city crypt. Odly, on the night that Phenics Father and city founder Galin Dionicas was murdered in his sleep, the body of Heratius was stolen from the graveyard by the Coterie of the Eternal Night.
I had offered to track down the defilers of Heratius grave. He gave me a writ and bade me speak with the Loremaster of Records in Shadow Haven.
When I returned with a list of names he had requested in the slaying of Heratius, he recognized one of the names. It was that of a young alchemist, Valdanov Zevfeer. My investigation uncovered that Valdanov was a talented alchemist from shadow Haven. He had been a valuable asset to Nathyn Illuminious, a city enchanter. He was provided residence in Nathyns city home.
Nathyn informed me that he had not seen Valdanov in quite some time. He said that Valdanov had become obsessed with his research into vampire physiology and the effects of various formula on undead creatures. Naturally, my interested was peaked. He bade me to seek out an undead Vah Shir, wondering the Tenebrous Mountains.
I was ambushed by this foul undead while traveling with knights the eve before last as you know. Before we struck the final blow, he pleaded for mercy. He told me that Valdanov had extracted blood from him years ago and dropped a key during the struggle. The undead Vah Shir pressed the key into my hands wanting to beat a hasty retreat before being seen. When suddenly, he was slain by four Coterie generals.
We dispatched the undead and returned to Katta Castellum to inform Phenic of what we had learned. Phenic suggested a thorough search of Nathyn Illuminious mansion for further clues.
While investigating, I came upon a locked chest in a secret room with posted guards. The guards eyed me suspiciously. On a hunch, I quickly pushed the key into the chest and turned it. To my surprise, it opened revealing an imprisoned shade. Upon dispatching this shade, I found a research book and a shade belt.
We carried these items to the Magus Conlegium. They summoned the shade lord and began to question him about the activities of Valdanov. What we learned was that Valdanov was interested in Akhevan blood because of its strange mutagenic qualities on non-Akhevah. This blood has mutated Valdanov to be more than any normal Vampire, making him impervious to even the most powerful blades known.
We must find a way to destroy him noble loremaster. I am asking for your assistance in seeking weapons that we might strike a final blow upon this terror. And in doing so, we dispense justice for those who have fallen to the vampire curse.
